  • Microsoft should be ashamed of OneDrive

    By roaming_abroad
Update: June 2022 Seriously crazy & dangerous software. 1- No one from OneDrive will ever reply to your support requests. 2- Today, OneDrive deleted my main file from both the online storage AND my MacBook Air (M1 chip). 3- I searched in the recylce bin, both online & on my MBS: not there! By the way, I'm no novice with IT. I'm the one everyone across the entire office comes to for help. I don't know how this App could be worse. Is there such thing as negative 5 stars? This app gets only worse & worse with every update. 1- Several times a week, OneDrive, on its own, removes all my files from my MacBook Air (M1) running the latest version of MacOS Monterey. 2- I have the checkmark next to the files that I want saved both remotely on OneDrive and on my MBA. That makes no difference. 3- If I get on a long flight, depending on having my files available, I suddenly find they are gone. So, I have to keep two copies on one laptop: one on OneDrive. Another in a separate folder, eating up storage space. 4- Even when I'm on the ground with a WiFi connection, I constanly find files that will not open. I have to sign-in to OneDrive to get them. 5- Files that do open have AutoSave inexplicably turned OFF. Why? Then, when I turn AutoSave ON, they save to a location where I can't locate them. I even put the file name in a search of the complete HDD and can't locate them. NOTE: When I contact OneDrive Support, I typical have to wait ONE WEEK to TEN DAYS for a reply. And their replies are always completely unrelated to the question I wrote. They do not read what I wrote about my problem. I've gone back & forth with them for 3 months, getting zero useful help. Microsoft should be ashamed of OneDrive. The only reason I switched from DropBox to One Drive was becuase OneDrive saves the document constantly as I work on it. AutoSave. Now AutoSave doesn't work. DropBox never removed my flies from local storage. DropBox never subjected me to so much torture. This is what you get with a subscription to "Microsoft 365"?? Previous review: I've been using DropBox to save all my work for a few years & only switched to OneDrive for the "always saved" feature. 1- To begin, I had to remove the "|" characher from every finle name (used to separte date & version. 2- I click on a file and constnatly find "This file does not exist." But, this App saved the day for me because it saves "Version History" for all the weeks behind. This was a small miracle as I needed to recover something that was over-written on the current file. Last week I contacted Microsoft Support about an issue of files not found and got the classic "It's not my job" reply. They told me, "You need to contact OneDrive support." I asked, "How do I do that?" Reply: "Not sure."

UPDATE: After the recent updates, I drop my 5 stars to 1 star for the problems I have been facing. until recently, I had all my docs saved on an EXTERNAL DRIVE to save space on the startup disk and OneDrive backed-up everything on the cloud. I didn’t mind keeping a copy locally as I was able to automatically sort and file all scans using the help of HAZEL app which looks inside PDF for keywords and act accordingly. NOW, it required an APFS formatted drive to operate. After doing so, it did not allow me to link my external drive files, instead it created a directory inside the Library inside the startup disk which I can no longer search for content because it uploads all the files to the cloud to save disk space, nor can I download the entire backup as it will need more space in my startup disk. This is a nightmare!! ORIGINAl 5 STAR REVIEW: Although apple gives you 2TB (subscription), this includes the office suite (subscription) and the ability to search content online especially if you scan and ocr many documents and forget to rename them. Apple iCloud does not give you the ability to search the content of cloud documents if they are uploaded. Additionally, Apple just added the ability to upload documents to cloud willingly to save space where OneDrive had this feature for a while. The only culprit of OneDrive is you have to confine to windows naming rules. No special characters or your sync will stop for errors.
  • Big fan of features; massive memory required is dealbreaker

    By dj jon bates
The features and functionality of OneDrive in the app form here are wonderful. But it takes up so much memory and consumes so much of the CPU cycles that I cannot do much else when running on my newish MacBook Air with an average configuration. I hope MSFT can improve the memory issues, because i would love to use this app.

  • Still broken

    By Mike14120
Haven't used this for a couple months and MS doesn't disappoint. Still broken. Did a full re-sych and only certain file are accessible. Other folders say "loading" and hang forever. Keep up the great work.
  • Frequent updates, zero fixes

    By Darth Reisender
Been using this for a few years now because I have my files from Windows in OneDrive, but this app just never works and never gets fixed. It ALWAYS freezes while "proessing changes" though you don´t know which changes it is processing, and very small changes (like adding a 1KB file) can take weeks to either upload or download. Totally useless.
  • Microsft has not pushed M1 version here!

    By jdawgnoonan
For some reason Microsoft waited months and monts to push the universal version of this to the Mac app store. I ended up losing patience and removing the version from the app store and then downloaded the version from Microsoft's site so that I could run the correct version on my Mac. Apple needs to monitor this and not let developers get away with this.
  • Pure Trash

    By AngerFork
I'm a big fan of OneDrive for PCs & mobile devices, it works great there. But the Mac version here just plain doesn't work. It takes forever to sign in, then randomly refuses to see half my folders while at the same time just not downloading the ones it does see. Every time I restart my computer, I have to redownload it to try & make it work. Not worth the effort until they make an effort to actually make it work properly.
  • Time-wasting problems hamper convenience

    By St. Dox
In addition to suddenly changing the drive location a few updates back (yielding no discernible benefit and wasting quite a bit of time re-downloading all my files), the OneDrive application does not open automatically at login despite being set to do so and moreover requests confirmation of OneDrive's new location every time the app is newly launched. These combined effects end up costing a couple of minutes every time I sit down to work. Highly disappointing for a paid service from a major developer.
