If the Spanish is wrong I wonder what other languages they are teaching wrong. Expected an app like this to be accurate.
  • Too good to be true! 🤯

This app is free, fun, and effective. It’s so fun and entertaining. I’ve been learning French for 100 days and it’s so good, that I can’t stop! This is better than any other language-learning app I’ve ever used! I hope that if you install Duolingo, it’s fun for you, too!

I’m tired of the frozen screens and may stop subscribing as a result. I waste too much time trying to get lessons to start. Despite repeated updates that claim to “squash bugs,” the frozen screens continue to get worse.
  • Amazing app—a few major issues

Let me start this off by saying I have tried MANY language learning apps and Duolingo by far is my favorite. It has been the most effective and I love Lily (the emo queen 👑). I like how there are unique characters so it seems like you’re learning a language with actual people—not robots. There are many things you can do on the app; you can do a lesson, read a book, or listen to a podcast. I also enjoy how you can have friends and encourage them to learn with you. I also enjoy each months challenge and the meaning behind them. The blogs are also really interesting. All right enough of the good stuff, time to get to my complaints. First of all, I can’t tell you the amount of times that the dictionary hints are wrong. Every time the hints are wrong, I report it. They never fix it. :( Also five hearts? Why so few? Sorry that I don’t want to waste hundreds of dollars a year for an app I only get on ten minutes a day 🙄. You should at least give us ten hearts. I mean we already get ads. Another complaint is that Duo is starting to add politics into the app. I’m here to learn French, not be surrounded by politics like I already have to be in real life. I feel like politics should be kept out of this app. My final complaint is that I feel as if they encourage learning TOO much. I get it, you want to keep us motivated but the leagues become too stressful and overwhelming. You don’t want to burn out your students. Thanks for reading and have a blessed day! Salut ! ***** Edit: Ok so I’ve took quiet a few lessons since I wrote this review and sadly I have nothing to bring but more complaints.😔 I just got out of a lesson because I was done with this. I LITERALLY HAD THE RIGHT ANSWER AND IT COUNTED IT WRONG!!!! I have a screenshot of it and I wish you could add photos on here so you could see. But this is what it was: It was a listening exercise saying: Ce chien mange mon sac ! C’est votre chien ? 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘨! 𝘐𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘰𝘨? And for listening exercises you only have a few select words to choose from. So I put down: Ce chien mange mon sac C’est votre chien Punctuation isn’t an option on listening exercises and that is the ONLY difference between my “wrong” (🙄😡) answer and their “right” one. If that was why I got it wrong then that’s just flat out stupid! This was the only question I got wrong and I would have had a perfect lesson if this issue hadn’t have happened. Also, the listening exercises are terrible! There was two words between the sentence that wasn’t a choice. I opened up the messages for that question and it turns out those random words they throw in there are voice commands for punctuation. I think that should be taken out for it was really confusing and has confused me numerous times. And I guarantee you that I’m not the only person confused by that. I have numerous friends on Duolingo and they complain about the exact same things I complain about! One more thing, if you have a typo 8 times out of 10 they are going to count it wrong. This is very discouraging! There has been times before when I would accidentally put Mari instead of Marie. Now I understand « Mari » is French for “Husband” BUT they should fix it to where they can recognize “Hey, that looks kind of like Marie!” and still count it right! They should have a system where if a word or two looks wrong they tell you to try again. Kind of like when you’re doing a speaking exercise and they don’t pick up what you’re saying (again happens too often) and they tell you to try again (you get three tries on speaking exercises). They should do something like that for the other exercises! A typo I had recently was: The (translated) sentence: You buy a baguette every day. And I put: You buy BAGUETTES every day. They should have a system that tells you “Baguettes doesn’t look right. Try again!” But no, they just count it wrong. 😐 I originally rated this 4 stars but now I’m changing it to 3. I also apologize that this is so long! I tried to make it as easy to read as possible! Have a great day and developers please try to fix those issues!
