sharing family recipes is so much easier now; instead of asking for directions via facetime u can just send a copy of it

I’ve been wanting to digitize my families recipe books (which are more like multiple 6 inch binders), and this app has been the first one I’ve tried to actually have every feature I need. Easy to use and share, a reasonable price, plus the inclusion of grocery lists and meal plans. Super glad I gave this a try, and I’ll probably get some of my family members to get it as well. Thank you!

I heard about this app on a Reddit post asking about the best cookbook apps. The developer recommended this one, while also admitting he’s the developer and his own bias. I’m honestly very impressed with the quality of the app. Definitely felt it was worth the $20 for lifetime premium.

I’m not kidding, I can’t find anything wrong with this app. Everything I’ve wanted it to do, it can do. Intuitive interface, easy importing from other apps (like paprika) and tons of recipe websites, photo scanning, and more. Automatic grocery lists, recipe scaling, shared recipe books… I’ve been looking for an app like this for years and I’ve finally found it. The only request I would have would be for an android version so I can have a shared recipe book with some family members on that platform.

I have been watching Paprika for a couple years now, eventually thinking I’d buy into that ecosystem. After getting so frustrated with the ad heavy recipe blogs and sites, I had enough, and decided it was time. Once again I turned to Reddit for my final hunt before going all in. I eventually ran across a few posts about Umami, and decided to check it out. Once I saw some of the features after downloading, I was sold on it. Being able to be in control of your data, in the unlikely event the app goes bust, is nice, and several formats, I might add. Then the collaboration feature is really nice. I had questions about this feature with the current software model, and reached out to Jeff. He clearly explained that within the app, you can add up to 5 additional people as family members, and these people will then have access to collaborate with you, without having to have their own copy/subscription. The importing of recipes seems to work really well, and really like the ability to add the quick actions in safari to have a quick, two tap import into Umami, then bam, select your recipe book, and its imported. One comment I will add, is that if the page you are scraping the recipe from has more than one recipe on it, it a “bulk” recipe, you’ll need to make sure it gets the correct one you are after. You can copy and paste the one you want, if it gives you the incorrect one, fairly easily. The only downside is that there are certain websites that do not allow the app to scrape the recipe from. In those cases, I’ve found you can still copy and paste it to/from the Notes app, and transfer it that way, or piecemeal via copy and paste directly. Thanks Jeff, for sharing your family dream with the rest of us.

Does everything I need it to with an awesome UI. The way it lets me share recipes with others is awesome too. I'd gladly pay for this.

For anyone looking for a way to keep track of own recipes, this works really well. It’s very simple to use and navigate through. I haven’t figured a way to delete photos yet. That may be an opportunity for upgrade. I like the tag feature for better searching in the future. I actually use this for recording cocktail recipes. In the suggested websites, I would actually add some cocktail websites. *thanks to the developer’s note, I was able to easily find the option to delete photos. Thank you! Still super easy to use.
