  • Used to love it; now I feel taken advantage of

This was a great calendar app and, on fact, still is. Going to a subscription makes sense for developers; I get that. But $80/year for a family plan for a calendar?? Come on - the entire Microsoft bundle casts $100. That's value. The fact is that the app has barely changed in years but the price has skyrocketed. That's anti user and anti consumer. And yet inertia keeps me using it - so yeah the company must be happy. But I feel irritated.

I have used Fantastical on and off for several years, as nothing has compared to this software. I absolutely loved it. However, 2 or 3 weeks ago, it was acting slow and so I force closed the app on my Macbook. Now, no matter what I do, it will NOT load on my computer and perpetually says "not responding." I have deleted the software and redownloaded it several times. I have been in touch with tech support, and none of the suggestions are working. The company doesn't have a remote-in option so I am stuck having to email back and forth to troubleshoot this issue. The tech support people are very friendly and great, but ultimately I am going to be looking for an alternative because no one has been able to resolve this issue. I am really disappointed that I am PAYING a monthly fee and not even able to use Fantastical on my main device.
  • It's nice, but not worth the subscription or "free" shaming

I've been a Fantastical user for a very long time. I was wary when they moved to the subscription model, and now I'm out. Openings is nice, but not flexible enough. The other features don't nearly justify the very high cost of the subscription. This would have been fine, but now the app overlays a "FREE MODE" thing on the bottom, which I only have vulgar words for. Years of customer goodwill, gone. Bye.

  • One more account!?

As soon as you start it up it demands you create an account on their servers without explaining why this is needed. I was a happy user of Fantastical 1 a long time ago, sad to see that what was once a great little utility has become such a bloated mess.

This app is seamless and simple - sign into your Google account and follow the easy prompts to connect to your existing Google Calendar on your Mac on a clean user interface. My only cons for this app and why I didn't give a 5-star rating is that it aggressively pushes the premium version and/or a free trial during the setup process which can be confusing & equally annoying.
  • Leaving for now

While the feature set of Fantastical is pretty great, there is an increasing number of bugs that are making it difficult to use on both macOS and iPhone. There has been a bug for some time on iOS that makes the CPU go crazy when I leave Wifi (likely background app refresh), and it drains my battery very quickly and makes the phone almost hard to hold because it gets so hot. On macOS the number of bugs in templates over the past year make it where one of my most-used features is very unreliable and takes longer than the built-in calendar to make entries. It's a fairly expensive subscription for me to start questioning if it's really helping me at all. So, I'm going to leave for a bit and see if I miss it enough to come back.

I've got a lot of subscriptions so I made the difficult choice to cancel my subscription for one and only one reason: Lack of abiltity to easily seup recurring events. I need minimal clicks and don't have time to edit apps' to setup recurring events. Otherwise, I'd stick with the subscription because it's an awesome calendering app.
