  • Great streaming platform, HORRIBLE app!

If I were to rate HBO Max as a streaming platform, it will definitely have 5 stars. There's a great variety of shows on this platform! However, this app is just a great big disappointment. First, the ad-free plan that HBO max offers includes the ability to download episodes to watch offline. THIS DOES NOT WORK. The app will not load if you are not connected to the internet, which defeats the entire purpose of a downloads page, which makes this ads-free subscription partially useless. As someone who travels frequently, I want the option for an app DESIGNED to have this option to function. Secondly, one episode of a show I downloaded will crash the entire app every. single. time. I try to play it. I've tried to delete and redownloaded the episode, reinstall the HBO max app, restart my device, all to no avail. I never imagined such a popular streaming platform would have such a horrible app. Please fix the bugs for this app, it is just driving me insane. If you're thinking about downloading this app, don't. Just stick to the online browser, or use a different streaming platform.

I love the massive selection of my favorite shows and all but the constant lag while watching kills the experience.
  • Absolute worst streaming service to ever exist

Pros: content is great. The best new movies, awesome shows. Cons: literally everything else. This app is the absolute worst, slowest, most frustrating streaming app I’ve ever encountered. Don’t have ANY other device in your house streaming ANYTHING, or this won’t load. I spend hours of my day trying to get through one episode of a show because it just stops playing and buffers forever and I have to exit the app and try again. After a long and hard day at work I literally will watch Netflix or Amazon because I don’t have any more patience to spend on this app and its flaws. To be one of the biggest production companies and one of the most popular apps/channels, you’d think they’d put more effort and intelligence into the efficiency of this app. 0/10 recommend, if you can rent the movie for $4 on Amazon, do it. I promise it’ll save you so much headache and trouble.
  • Crappy App

I have Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video and by far HBO Max has been the worst app ever. Takes forever to load and kicks you out in the middle of a movie. Updates don’t fix anything

    Supper buggy all around. Unusable.
  • The ability to download videos is useless

You can download videos for offline viewing…but if you don’t have internet access and launch the app, it just hangs on the loading screen. It is impossible to launch the app without internet service. What is the point of letting me download videos if not to allow offline viewing? Pointless.
  • Poor app, great content

The HBO app of old, before AT&T bought them, was great. HBO Max, not so much. The iOS and Apple TV apps are both equally not so great, but at the moment the iOS app is upsetting me the most. I’m on vacation and watching downloaded videos is the worst experience right now. First, I couldn’t even download an entire season of a show before I left because the downloads would error for some reason that wasn’t provided. When I would watch downloaded shows I wouldn’t get “cellular usage” warnings when I played half of them, which made me wonder how “downloaded” they really were. And try navigating around the app when you have a week cellular signal, oh the pain of waiting for nothing to happen… please clean up the UX and the performance bugs, please!

If it’s downloaded why do I need internet access to cast it to another device but don’t need to internet to play it on my phone. Either crap logic or your trying steal data from the newly connected device and can’t find an internet connection to start data dumping through.
