I loved you while we were together, Fantastical- but no subscription model for me so it’s good bye for now. Til we meet again

Paid for this app a few years ago and now they’ve gone subscription and free to use. What about the adopters that paid you for the app? You didn’t give us anything for supporting you previously.
  • Crashing… All the time

Fantastical keeps crashing upon launch on iOS. Not sure what is going on: updated iOS to the latest … uninstalled and reinstalled fantastical. Checked subscription. App keeps crashing and the flexbits support website makes no mention of resolution. Ugh. Help flexbits.
  • Search not working

I was very happy with the app. The UI and functionality are excellent. However, the search function doesn’t work properly. I’m unable to find appointments without manually going thru the calendar, which is very tedious. I have countless appointments going out several months in the future and the search feature not working is a huge inconvenience.

Sorry I’m not paying $40 a year to use a calendar. What ever happened to just buying a piece of software? This is a no from me. I’ll look for something that is either a one time charge or free.
  • Losing its luster…

This was *the* calendar app for a long time. And it’s still good, but it’s no longer special. Nearly all calendar apps now have natural language detection, the feature that made this app a name. Add to that the stale UI and… yeah it works well enough but the little annoyances are starting to shine through. For example, in Day Tracker or Full Day View, why does it always load at top of the day. It’s 7pm, I don’t care about events from 12 hours ago, but i would like to see what’s coming up without scrolling. Insult to injury the Day Tracker loads at the top of the day regardless of the time you open it, but it darkens past events… an acknowledgment that those past events are meaningless, but I’m still gonna have to scroll past long to get to what’s happening now/next tonight. Just so many little things like that which, in the absence of truly standout features, make Fantastical feel unpolished.

What a mess this app is. Can’t even create a basic event that repeats every day on weekdays without it creating 3 multiples on the same day.
  • Ruined by subscription

The app has been ruined by the subscription system which devalues what I paid for.
  • Gross privacy violation

Fantastical would not let me do the initial setup without letting them have access to my private contacts. I could see this being an option, but denying me the use of the app unless I surrender my private info is offensive and unethical….there are other calendar apps that allow one to bypass this info. I think I'll delete Fantastical. Update May 11th, 2022: Note to the developer: I re-downloaded Fantastical and tried to set it up again. Same results: One cannot set up the app without giving permission to my private info. Respectfully, have you tried setting up Fantastical from an iPad? I think what you mean to say is that if I agree to give up my personal info I can at a later point, through my iPad settings, reverse my earlier permission. Is this what you mean to say? ….This controlling approach is unacceptable. Please stop trying to manipulate potential users into giving up their personal info if they do not want to. My suggestion: please stop covering over this issue with a canned “developer response”. Do the right thing and stop the snooping. It is unethical and unnecessary. Be a great calendar app instead of a good calendar app that is also a peeping Tom. Update to the anonymous Developer Response from May 12th: In regards to your business model - that is not my concern. My concern is that the Fantastical app is designed to force people into surrendering their private information before one is allowed to finish setting up the app. Part of the anonymous Developer Response: “As we mentioned earlier, you can deny access to your contacts and still use Fantastical.” You are using weasel words. I cannot finish setting up the app without coughing up my personal information. If you keep responding with weasel words I’ll keep busting you with the truth. I think it is best that you stop responding and fix your app. Or, at the least, put your tail between your legs and slink away. However I’m hoping you just follow through and fix your app, especially now that Apple in promoting more privacy for its customers.
