  • Issue for over a year, No fix

Many folks will use Garageband with a device like the AKAI MPK Mini and similar. Usually they will download the plug-ins, tools etc. that make those devices fun to learn on and in the end are free tools to make music with, and the MPC software includes some pretty commonly used plug-ins. One of Those is "Hybrid_x64" by "AIR Music Technology" and this causes GarageBand to brick. It cannot even open because of an issue. that isn't 100% Apple's fault, but what is, is that this has been an ongoing issue and they have done nothing to fix. IF I uninstall everything and then reinstall Garageband, the problem persists. There is no way to stop garageband from looking for this now long gone plugin. I cannot use this program that was at least 50% of why I got a macbook.

Garageband is great for beginners. I've been using it for 10 years now, but unfortunately the plug-ins availdble on garageband are outdated & garageband crashes when you use purchased 3rd party plug-ins. I have the storage, Garageband just doesn't have the capacity. It's great for a free DAW, but as far as actual music/vocal production goes, I suggest just spending the money on a more professional DAW such as Logic X or Abelton.
  • Was a powerful DAW pre-installed on my Mac

I really loved using Garageband for about a year and a half now. Since other DAWs are incredibly expensive, getting a macbook that I can use for school and other stuff while having a very powerful DAW at my fingertips was incredible. The loops library is a very useful resource with thousands of loops to pick from. Garageband has helped me make the music I've always wanted to make. That was until it began to fail software wise. First I was unable to install new loops, to remedy this uninstalled and reinstalled. Worked great. Then maybe 2 weeks later I'm working on a track for a few days now and I am messing with a patch when suddenly GarageBand crashes, no problem that happens pretty often, good thing it autosaves. When I then try to open my track, I crashes again, and again, and again. Even after reinstalling. Crash. I lost hope in recovering my work and just decided to make something new. After 2 days of working on this new track. Crash. Another track left unrecoverable. If my hard work will be left to rot on my hard drive with no way to use it, I'd much rather use an actually functioning DAW that doesn't do that. I really loved using Garageband while I could, but it seems that that is no longer a possibility.

Apple is a best brand and a good company. And also the first macintosh computer ever build, But! when it comes to business like money management, marketing and etc, especially customer service. if I rate it on a survey? I would click on one star only and say "very poor". The reason why because 1st I’ve been buying products online that are totally different from the one seen on promotion and advertisement. 2nd Everytime I tried to call customer service online I had to wait for 2hrs to get replied. For the most part, the last but not the least, they always make me do overpayment on any apps are purchased on apple store. or sometimes after 6months to 1yr I end up buying again the same apps which are already being fully paid. if these issues are not in consideration or not being address, This company will loose people interest and could cause a bad reputation somewhere in the near future. And somebody gonna get whoops from dady’s belt.

GarageBand is great for when I want to record music. I can seperate the tracks, and record my guitar and vocals and have my brother record the drums! But when it comes to plugging instruments into my computer, it doesn't go so well, but still, that's just one part! It's still great!

It prompts me to update but then says it's not compatible with my OS version. So it prompts to download an older version of Garage Band like 5 times and does nothing. Unfortunately I get notifications for this, it's annoying.
  • done a wonderful job of making it worse

in 2008 this app was more adavenced than it is today. you've made something as simple as creating a ringtone more difficult than in was almost two decades ago. Pathetic
