There are some really good things about this app - the various ways words and phrases are taught, the videos so you can hear different ways words might sound from person to person, and the learning/reviewing process is generally smooth. You don't need to devote much time every day to make progress. I also enjoy the videos because you can tell the people involved are having fun with it and it makes the lessons more memorable. There's glaring problems, though. You're never taught any of the "why's" or grammar, so don't get an understanding of how the language works. You only learn words and phrases with no further explanation. There are also simple things you USED to be able to do that they took away - like restarting a course if you had to step away for a while, or reviewing any words you'd like just as a refresher. Sometimes I have down time and want to go over all I've learned so far. But now you have to wait for the app to ALLOW you to review words. What's the sense in that, not letting people practice the language they're trying to learn? There's also a new AI chat feature, but it doesn't factor your current experience level at all and does not respond accurately. The streak function and new point system are also both gimmicky and annoying; they create a lot of meaningless pop-ups and I wish they could be turned off. For how long this app has been around, there are things it should be doing better - and it certainly shouldn't be moving backwards by removing basic features in favor of useless fads.
  • Change the flag of Iran

You have used Islamic Republic flag to show Persian language , while Persian language has nothing to do with Islamic Republic in Iran. So, plz change it into 3 color flag without any sign in the middle of it.

Memrise is great at ‘sneaking’ up on you. I did not realize it, but I now know so much Japanese!

Welp, paid for the lifetime subscription and it was great while it lasted, but now I'm at the end. No more scenarios, but I'm only level 20, so not sure how I'm supposed to get to "Maestro" Status. Been using DWLearnGerman and it's awesome! So I'd go there if I was you. Oh well! Here are my notes for the app, and I'll check back in, in a few years to see if there's anything else going on. 1. NEEDS AN OFFLINE MODE!! 2. BRING BACK UNLIMITED REVIEW! 3. Conversations are a little better but they were repeating over and over and over again. I can only ask for the WiFi so many times!! 4. Needs more material. See you after 10-20 more updates!

I actually love this app. It helps you learn almost any language. I’m American and having conversations in Chinese.
  • Please add Modern Standard Arabic??

Overall, this app is really good! I love how we’re able to pick the conversations we want to use in the future so we can discuss it with others. It also makes it easier because that will mean we could anticipate what another person would say; moreover, it’s thanks to the feature of picking conversation. This is something that is important when you learn a language. This app is really good but after using this app for learning Arabic, I realized I was learning some slang words. Which is in fact not what I wanted; in fact, I wanted to learn formal or MSA (Modern Standard Arabic.) I just wish there were more options we could pick from.

Honestly I feel like a lot of other apps don’t quite help with driving home the same dialogue based practice it takes to dive into a language like this one!
  • Extremely disappointed with the removal of community courses.

I appreciate the functionality and design of this app, but coming back to find that the app has been rendered obsolete for me is frustrating. It’s a bit of a hassle to have to open the website.
  • Removal of community courses was bad

Many people enjoy the community courses over the Memrise courses and removing it without including users in the decision was silly.

Last time I used Memrise, I was disappointed. The features were severely limited, and the variety of language learning options was lacking. However, after deciding to give it another try, I found that the app has come a long way and has significantly improved since then. I appreciate the inclusivity towards non-pro subscribers and the free AI features. Keep it up, Memrise!
