  • Scam

If there’s a subscription fee for using the service why not just saying it instead of calling it “donation”? How can I trust a company playing tricks like this?
  • Couchsurfing supports racists

    By Thedvine
I submitted a request to surf with an ambassador of the couchsurfing app which was denied with no comment. When I requested again for different days and inquired if his denial, he did the same thing again. I go to his reviews and see only white people and people of Spanish descent, so of course, I took this to be racially motivated. I left a review stating that Winston will approve or deny your request based on race and that was removed as they considered it “bullying and harassment.” I’ve had several interactions such as this and couch surfing always seems to back up the racist, coincidence huh?
  • Bugs

CouchSurfing and its community is what the World needs more of!! I started 10 years ago and it changed my life. Now about the app: The good: The app keeps getting better. Features are really useful. I love that you can read the communication history after joining a Hangout chat. The bad: Bugs with notifications, I get notified sometimes hours after messages are sent. The messaging in Hangouts feature is quite slow, people quickly move to WhatsApp. I wish the feature "people traveling to your city" would also be in the app, and not only on the website.
  • Hosts don’t want me

    By Packer2020
The first thing this app wants is a per month fee (or per year) or else u can’t use the app. Then they encourage u to spend $60 to get verified so you’ll be able to find a host faster. I paid $60 + $15 yearly fee = $75. I sent about 20 requests to ~ 20 hosts in Los Angeles area. I was rejected by all 20. I suspect it’s b/c I am new to couch surfing and don’t have any references. But then it begs the question… How do I get references if hosts will not accept me??!! My advice to travelers wanting to save money - spend money on a well rated hostel eg use the Hostel World app. The $75 I spent is easily a one night stay at a top rated hostel

  • No one appears to be active in the past 3 years!!

    By Lbanonygrl
Don’t pay anything! It blames COVID for lack of activity but, it seems to be just a way to get money because you can’t access the app until you pay. Then, you see no one has been active for 3-9 years!! Even the reviews are old! Luckily, I only paid for one month.

There needs to be a way to see past hangouts and the people that attended them.
