    The program is simple to use however, the app needs more coaching tips, especially for the 5K version. The motivational cues are pleasant but adding more technique cues can be very beneficial. Because every user is different, the coaching can be generic in nature. The purpose would be to given the runner something to be conscious of while trying to attain their goal.
  • You don’t need my location

    The app requires When In Use location permissions. Ostensibly, this is so it can generate a map of where you ran after the workout. However, there is no way to use the app without giving location permissions. Trying to start a run once they’re off prompts me to turn on location permissions in settings. I run indoors primarily so your map is useless, and I don’t especially like giving more personal data than I need to. Please allow us to use the app with location turned off.

    To start, I am not a runner in the least. I have the physique of a runner, but zero lung or stamina capacity. This app has helped me with both as it is a run / walk internals app that starts at REALLY easy levels and allows a gradual increase. You can run up to three times a week or more if you want to hit your 5K goal faster. I love the way it signals you to start running or walking, let’s you know when you’re half way to turn around, and tells you when you’re in cool down stage. I also love the metrics it shows at the end with your route and calories burned. The app also allows you to rate each run so it can customize your next run based off of rating.

    This is my second time using it this year, and I love it! I am not naturally a runner, and this app actually helps me enjoy it. I appreciate that they optimize the plan if you’re struggling with a week. I also like the coach in your ear giving g you little bits of encouragement. Definitely recommend!

    Pros: - Non runners can go from not running to running 5Ks - Easy to follow and keep track of progress - Nice features such as uploading a playlist from Apple Music, sound cues of when to start and stop running, route tracker (milage and time tracker), and a lock feature so your workout won’t stop when your screen turns off or when you accidentally touch your phone. Cons: - For those new to running, you might want to look for supplemental information on running form and breathing. As a person who has never been a runner, this program was incredibly helpful as I trained for my first 5K. I have spent several years being sedentary and needed an outlet for the stress in my life. I started my journey at the beginning of 2020 at 220 and very out of shape. I followed the program; but as I listened to my body, I did repeat a few workouts as necessary. They now optimize the workout so that is helpful too. I did take a break soon after starting due to the pandemic, but I started to seriously train for the 5K in July 2020. I was persistent and consistent, and got a few 5K’s in before my first official race. I competed in my first 5K in October 2020 weighing just under 180. I I took a break from running during and a little after the birth of my child, but I have now gone back to running. I am using the program again to help me get back to where I was pre-baby less than a year ago. If you are on the fence about the money, I used the free two week trial program until I was running with it three times a week and had used all the program as it was written completely. Once I knew I would stick with it, I paid for the full version. It has been worth every penny.

    The 5k training program trains you to increase your time, ending at 35 minutes. If you take short strides as my partner and I do, this won’t take you fully to a 5k. 35 minutes is about 2.5 miles for me.

    This app is so helpful for a beginner like me! I’m sure it’s great for other runners to. I tried this prior to pregnancy and now I’m trying it postpartum after my second child and it is very helpful to help me be gradual in regaining my strength.
