  • It’s such a pity because it could be everything…

I don’t know why Apple continues to shoot itself in its foot when it comes to formats. Ok I get that they would rather everyone ONLY used the formats apple have decided to adopt but after a while, when it becomes clear that the bullying isn’t working and that people just aren’t willing to use one thing for apple and another for everything else…how come Apple would stubbornly rather stand outside smoking nasty cigarettes all alone than give it up and come inside where the party is and where they would be most welcome? This seems to be a basic tenet or mantra of the company. It runs from the charger cable formats through headphone jacks to audio editing, file formats, sharing, flash video…I could go on. It’s like they are stubbornly deciding to stay with Betamax when everyone else did VHS…CD Roms while the world just made their own permanent websites… Apple, You have had your go at trying to subvert everyone to the appleworld party, but almost everyone who’s coming is there already… you’re just pushing people across the hall to the android party at this point. Why not knock down the walls before it’s too late and come up with industry standards? Remember those? So much better to not have to wonder if your phone will even work in a different country. In this case I mean- why do you insist on making it so difficult to import any music that a musician might make externally to GarageBand? It’s so fundamentally opposed to the music world, which relies on sharing ideas and collaborating that it takes the whole point of creating music away from the user experience. We all want to share music not keep it to ourselves and that starts with artistic creation. Until you understand that concept and make it easier to bring musical ideas 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 the app from outside so that it can be added to and either finished or passed along… then your otherwise awesome app stumbles and collapses 5 feet from the finish line and is rendered a novelty for inexperienced but budding young musical talent. I so wish the day would come where the word ‘GarageBand’ didn’t make serious professional musicians laugh mockingly. It doesn’t have to be this way.

I have a couple of suggestions 1) you should make a feature on the piano and other instruments so that you can write down the notes and make your song that way. Kind of like note flight. 2) You should allow users to make their own drum pads using the other instruments and stuff
