  • Comments don’t work and they won’t fix

    By Settlese
The comments in the app don’t work and they don’t care to fix.
  • App won’t allow login

    By buthidae2
App won’t keep you logged in between articles and won’t allow a login. It’s a bug. It’s causing cancellations, beginning with mine. ETA. Comments seemingly cannot be accessed through the app. Could Slate make the app any more worthless?
  • Slate is great…the apps needs some work

    By Rossbossj
Slate has great writing and journalist and podcast. This app should make them easier to find, sort, and know what is new in news and culture. But the app often just sends me to the website, loads the podcasts slowly, and it does not allow quickly searching for authors. Given how snappy competitors apps are…this looks like it’s got a way to do.
  • Such a lousy app…

    By Arembee
No way to search for an article you want to read. What’s the point ?
  • Garbage app. Save your money.

    By Sonali55
The are aware the app does not load comments and you are unable to interact with any of the other users since comments do not load in the app. They are aware and refuse to fix it. Why will take your money though. Nice people.
  • Good but for lack of comments.

    By David1112
Slate is great but it’s unfortunate they’ve given up on making comments work in the app. It’s like they handed the app off to the unpaid interns.
  • Ugh

    By Jewel the Half Orc
This app provides a painful reading experience. I love content, but whoever designed this should be fired. I am going to delete the app and go back to reading Slate on my browser. The text in the app is like a blocky brick wall. It makes my head ache and my eyes hurt.
  • Doesn’t sync or refresh

    By Mariannapher
I love slate but this app stinks and it makes me want to stop paying for slate plus. It often doesn’t refresh or sync up or whatever to the live website, often on Sundays it will seem like there are no new stories. This Sunday the Sunday dear prudence never did publish to the app. Also, the comments don’t work on the app, so in order to engage on a story you have to go on the website, find the story there, and then decide if anything about Slate is worth this much annoyance.
  • 5 stars for content. Minus 4 stars for the app.

By Village of the Hudson Valley
The Slate app is the Startac of iOS apps. It is a dinosaur that still lumbers about the earth, but only just. I pay for Slate Plus, which means getting multiple versions of podcasts in the podcast feed. Podcasts which aren’t supposed to have ads, have ads. Some of them. Consistency is hard to find. I love many of the podcasts here, and the Plus is worth it for the bonus content from Slate Money alone. I would just like to see Slate have an app which is even a tenth as good as their journalism and opinion.
  • Can I read non-S+ articles w/o paying?

    By AlexIsAPodPerson
Is there any way to read Slate articles using the app on my phone if I’m not a member of Slate Plus? Right now, I am signed in on the app, and every single article, once I’ve opened them, brings up the prompt to become a member of Slate Plus, not just the ones that have the “S+” symbol. I’ve tried opening the same articles using browsers on my laptop, and I have access to them there. Other people seem to be able to read a few articles for free before getting the prompt, but I haven’t figured out what I might need to change in order to get that. If the app is only for Slate Plus members, then that should be explicit at the beginning of the process.
