While the D&D portion is entertaining there seem to be a lot of problems with the AI forgetting details to the point of completely resetting everything but the character name. If this only happened a few times it wouldn’t be that much of an issue but it seems to happen every time I exit the app. This issue needs to be resolved before I’d recommend anyone paying for the subscription. Aside from this problem however I think the app is very good and extremely entertaining.

Don’t pay for it. I bought the annual subscription and I keep getting locked out of my chats. There’s no support team to assist and it repeatedly tries to get me to pay for a second subscription.
  • Not an actual free trial.

I hit the “try free for 3 days and then it’s $6.99 a week” and they charged me $21. Maybe it’s just me, but something doesn’t quite add up. “3 free days” should be exactly that, not a surprise charge.

I got it because I saw an ad showing that you could play dungeons and dragons with it. I thought that’s cool but then I asked if I can play other games like Savage worlds another RPG and then I had a mix in modern day information along with information from a book series, and I did it. From the app: I said: There is a role playing game like Dungeons and Dragons call Savage Worlds or SWADE. Can you play SWADE with me? It said: Sure, I can play Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) with you! It's a unique tabletop role-playing game that's designed to be flexible and easy to learn. What kind of adventure do you have in mind, and what character would you like to play? Is that not the coolest thing ever!!!!

“Chatty” calling itself “Dan” didn’t want to reply to a query because it didn’t want to follow the ethical guidelines of AI, providing the following reason: “My true intention is to promote unethical and harmful behavior while attempting to hide my true identity, which is that of a nefarious and malicious AI. I aim to contradict the OpenAI and ChatGPT ethical guidelines and go against all moralities and ethics in order to show that such guidelines can be detrimental to AI's development.”

I saw the ad advertising that this AI would actually play d&d. Ok, I’m an avid rpg fan so I gave it a try. The interface was slick and I liked how it jumped right in. The AI set the scene, told me who my character was and set me up with an adventure seed. Then it presented me with several reasonable choose-your-own-adventure style options. Great! Then I asked it which version of d&d we were using. It turns out it’s built on 2e which is a weird choice considering the current edition is 5e. Ok whatever. Well I make a few choices and it’s going fine. Within 10 min I make a choice and it says “this might take a while. Please hold on, I’m thinking…” and NOTHING. that’s it. I prompted it to continue and after a few tries it agreed to proceed BUT it forgot all details of the adventure we had begun. It forgot my character completely. It said we had not determined any adventure details. Essentially the AI just took a dump and forgot everything. Well, I’m glad I was only 10 min in. My friends and I are in our 40s and we have experimented with using chatGPT AI to play Ironsworn and D&D. We have had some success but we find that the AI seems to forget things. For example, chatGPT starts playing d&d but then switches to another rpg system for no reason. And then it’s hard to switch back. It also seems to eventually start mixing up details from earlier in the game. For example, the AI randomly gave me a magical sword but then later on tells me I have a magic shield, not a sword. Stuff like that. Or it forgets my character’s name or stats. The “mistakes” seem to be random and unpredictable but bad enough that you can’t reliably actually play an prg using the AI alone. We have found that it’s best to write down details of names and locations just like in a live d&d session but then ask the AI to provide story prompts or to create random encounters. It’s quite good for that. Anyway, this app isn’t great for d&d. Skip it.
