I’m amazed at the quality of all of squares new products. I think this KDS is a year old and for the price you cannot beat it!
  • Not ready for my business

Gave it a try, but until I can designate which kind of ticket groups - not category - I want to show on the display, this is useless for my fast casual restaurant. For instance, I only want open tickets orders and online orders to show up when placed. Not every single ticket sale that’s rung up by my cashiers. It’s also a bit messy when a ticket is edited.
  • No way to write on/alter tickets at all. Just stick to paper.

After a ticket is rung in, there is literally no option but to complete the ticket, or bump it to the top. If a server rings something in wrong, there is no way to correct it. If I were to use this crappy useless app that was clearly designed by a team of apes that have never seen the back of a kitchen, I’d have to keep a stack of sticky notes next to me anyway for audibles. Please fix this screwed to death pile of burning feces you call an “expeditor” before I switch to Clover. Thanks. Edit: Also, why can you not combine tickets? If a server rings in a ticket but forgets one item and then rings it in right after, im stuck with two different tickets until they’re gone. With paper, I can just write the item on the original ticket instead of crowding my rail with seventy thousand “open food” tickets in between the ones I actually need to see. It’s very clear to me that this app has been designed to please owners, and has had absolutely no effort put into making it ACTUALLY USEFUL to the people who are forced to use it 12 hours out of the day. Seriously, your team has their heads up their rears if they think this app works ANYTHING like an expo rail. If you’re going to replace something with an app, make sure the app is actually a better alternative! How bad do you have to mess up that your digital app on an iPad is somehow more useless than literal freaking paper???
  • Updated to iOS 14.8 now KDS Device Code Doesn’t Work

I previously had both the Square KDS and Square Restaurants apps running on our Kitchen iPad. Each had its own device code and the system worked well. I just updated our iPad, now on iOS 14.8 and created new device codes and the KDS app now won’t load with a device code but the Restaurant app works fine. I get the following message when I input the device code for the KDS app: Login Restricted, this device code can only be used in the Square for Restaurants app on iPad or Square Register. I have already tried generating new device codes and such.
  • Still lacking essential features

It connects seamlessly with the Square for Restaurants app which is awesome, but it is missing some features that are essential in my kitchen. It doesn’t have color coding for dine-in, delivery, and take-out. It does say it on top of the ticket, but with my fast paced kitchen, it’s quicker to glance at the color. Also, it doesn’t show the seat numbers for dine-in tickets. If one person orders a lot of items a la carte, it will show up in the kitchen as separate orders and will be placed on separate plates. The last essential item is the ability to decide which devices communicate with which devices. I want to customize the screen to screen communication to best utilize the stations I have set up in my kitchen. Other things that would be useful are light mode vs. dark mode, a louder notification ding, and ability to recall tickets to the undone screen.
