  • Grammarly needs advanced LLM

    I’ve been a Grammarly user for a few years, but since I started using FixKey I have started using Grammarly a lot less. Grammarly effectively edits text and provides great suggestions which I mostly approve. Yet, I've noticed that accepting multiple proposed changes is time-consuming. In contrast, FixKey swiftly corrects the current sentence or paragraph behind the cursor is placed, enhancing even poorly typed sentences. By utilizing LLM technology to interpret your input, FixKey quickly makes corrections to the selected text in a second or less. So, I will only use Grammarly for editing my blog posts, but for my other writing, I'm using FixKey for quickly editing my typing.

  • Great Results, Great Big Pain...

    I love what grammarly does. I do not like using the product. They have too many different apps that are either web based, in your browser, or on your desktop. It starts appearing in places you don't want it to, and starts getting in the way. The other day I was editing in line, and spending a lot of time in the little popup, making changes to the suggestion. I was trying to format something, and out of habit hit escape where it would have been appropriate in Word, etc. The popup dropped and I lost all my work I started over, and did the same thing again (I take the blame on that one). I want this to be sleeker, easier. It should be out of the way until you need it. It should not have 20 ways to get to it, and have those ways all result in some different version of it. This review is a perfect example. I'm long winded, probably made mistakes, and would benefit from using it here. I just don't feel like it. Why? I just started using a new computer and don't want to install grammarly because it's also a terrible drain on your resources when it's running in the background.

    I have premium. I have to login multiple times daily. Re-writes and changes don't reflect how people converse at time. I'm looking into replacing this with ChatGPT shortly. Too much aggrevation with Grammarly.

    I truly enjoy and find Grammarly necessary as a journalist. Though I have an editor, it's nice to have am extra set of "eyes." However, I am constantly having to delete the ap and redownload because it gets stuck on a site that I am no longer using. If there was another option, I'd use it but it is vital to my job.

    My experience using this app might not be similar to others', but I thought I'd share it anyway. As an academic who does work on race, I found that the software simply fails to recognize academic terminology (which is somewhat expected), but continuously makes suggestions that are demonstrably racially insensitive. Despite reporting these multiple times, the same suggestions would continue to be served to my content. This made my usage of the software much less of a pleasant experience. I also noticed that the software will repeatedly conflate terminology in ways that would alter, the meaning of certain words requiring me to manually check every suggestion. In a book length project, this was incredibly inconvenient. Further, I was extremely disappointed, after uninstalling the software, that the uninstalled sequence did not restore my Mac's original settings after uninstall, making it impossible to use the systemwide, spelling and grammar check feature. I was incredibly disappointed because despite using the recommended Terminal command on Apple support website and other suggested interventions, I've still been unable to troubleshoot the issue. My experience with the software was profoundly disappointing overall. I am in a field where language matters, and apples system, spellcheck, as a result of my Grammarly experience, has been proven to be more consistently accurate, and created far less additional burdensome labor.

    Pros: It works with more applications then it lists, including Pages and Scivener. Cons: Overall use is more about nagging you to upgrade than doing its proper functions (Upgrade pricing is MORE than ALL competing products which work better!) It consistenly misses basic punctuation mistakes (especially commas). Incorrectly tells you to add commas where they are grammatically incorrect. The "Free" Premium suggestions are often what's supposed to be included in the free product (e.g. grammatical errors, incorrect word(s), etc.) To add insult, it often claims you used the "Premium" suggestion when you didn't, because it pops up when you simply put your curser there to retype/correct something. The AI submissions often come back exactly as submitted, claiming it changed from passive to active or vice versa. Several times when this happened, I hit "Try again" only for it to return the same exact text again and again.

  • I liked the the editing but App ran in background continuosly

    I enjoyed the editorial and AI features in the App - they were vaulable tools for me. But this App constantly runs in the background, and I was blocked from signing up for events on a government website. It took me 2 hours to remove the APP from my laptop - I had to force quit the App from Activity monitor. Frightening how much contorl this App had over my computer. I wish Grammarly would go back to the old editor without the AI.

    I see maybe 10 nag pop-ups a day, asking me to subscribe to premium, after highlighting my text, wanting me to reveal hidden features. Also, the regular bug (Big G and a smaller colored dot) often obscure the place where I'm trying to type. This happens especially often in Facebook. Intrusive and frustrating. I've had enough. Deleting.

    Email is arguably the most common scenario where one would want a tool like Grammarly. Unfortunately, Grammarly does not support the best and most private open source email client, Thunderbird. The good news is that LanguageTool does support ThunderBird.
