  • GET MacroFactor App INSTEAD!!

Carbon has potential but it overwhelmingly lacks in areas other competitors excel in. The lack of support and updates to what is considered a dated app does not make this worth the $10/ month subscription. The Devs are lazy and do not make an effort to improve the app. - No iPad version - No Apple Watch version - No ability to add app as a widget on the home screen. - Food database is not as extensive as competitor's - Scanning is not as fast as competitors - No flexibility with customizing the UI/ UX - No integration with other health applications I'm sure there are others things I missed out but for this app to cost $10 a month to just log food without any of the features its competitors offer is a bit ridiculous. Sure the UI is great and the ability for macro adjustments on the fly is nice, but it's hard to justify the steep price for a "smart coach" that just adjust your macros based on your weight. This isn't ground breaking tech by any means, it's a simple algorithm. This app should be free and you should have to pay for more premium features such as ipad and apple watch version, widgets extension, a smarter coach, etc. The subscription model just really lacks, and the devs not putting in effort to improve the app means your $10 is just being pocketed. I've been testing out the MacroFactor app as they have a 7 day free trial and bodybuilder Jeff Nippard recommended it. It is now my favorite food logging app compared to Carbon and MFP! Highly recommended MacroFactor as it does everything Carbon does + a TON more! Actually with the $10/ month!

I’ve been listening to/following/watching Dr. Layne Norton for several years and have heard him speaking about carbon and it’s unique algorithm many times. Finally decided to give it a try, and even though I’ve only been using it a week, I absolutely love it. I’ve worked with nutrition coaches in the past and have tracked macros for competition (dieting down, bulking, reverse, etc) so I have lots of experience with other tracking apps. This one is so simple and easy to use, and it completely takes all the work/guesswork out of calculating my own macros, as well as the hundreds I have spent each month in the past on having a coach work out my macros for me. The calorie planner is a great feature that My Fitness Pal doesn’t have, and makes it so easy to adjust things to fit around your lifestyle. You are in good hands with Carbon, no matter what your goals are!

Tried them all, Carbon easily surpasses the rest. Great UI, fast load times and seamless use overall.

Everything is here, no gimmicks, easy to navigate, a genuinely helpful tool and fairly priced.
  • Perfect concept - but they need to upgrade the food database

I love the app and have been using for about 4 months now. The tried and true concepts about gaining muscle/losing weight and nutrition are to the point and easy but WOW this app is far behind in its food database. I constantly have to input new foods which isn’t as much of a problem on LoseIt and Myfitnesspal. I’d say I’m inputting new foods 3x the amount I had to on other apps. LoseIt even has an AI that will input everything for you just by directing the camera at the nutrition label instead of the barcode. Eventually I think I will switch back to a free app with a better food database now that I have the concepts down on how to calculate and track weight and adjust calories weekly. Inputting new foods just takes so much time and if the developers wanna keep their customers they have to stay ahead of the curve on ease of use and access. I will continue paying for the moment as I’m a big supporter of the people who created this app and hope they get the message to stay competitive in this app market.
  • Great app but missing some basic functions and regular updates

I really love this app. it works well and I love the a clean interface. My main issues are that the developers have barely added any improvements or new functionality since it launched. A subscription based model should support continuous improvements. Additionally some very basic functions are missing that would improve ease of use greatly, namely the ability to drag entries on the timeline between meals, and to duplicate recipes. The ability to import recipes would also be a huge improvement. It would be great to have greater compliance ranges for carbs and fat if calories and protein are hit, and also support a fiber goal. Also the macro planner feature should allow you to set the actual numbers for each macro on a day to day basis instead of just calories when you are in manual mode.

This app used to be the best but the lack of improvement over the last couple years is really sad. Too bad Layne is resting on his laurels.
  • Functionally a great macro tracker.

Have used this app daily for the past 4 months and at first loved it but after awhile I found the ultra strict macro and calorie restriction to be a little on the absurd side. Even on a reverse diet when I am actively trying to gain weight if I went over calories or a certain macro for the week it would tell me to try again next week. It’s great for when you are on a strict cut, however for everyday normal life it’s unsustainable. Switched to MacroFactor and am much happier with that.
  • Annoying app to use, others are far better

I used Carbon for just under 2 months. I stayed compliant and did lose weight, but the UI is awful and the app is super slow. Entering food is frustrating; entries are often times inaccurate, the scanner is slow, and you can’t share recipes which makes using the app with your spouse very cumbersome. The diet coach is rigid and doesn’t allow for any variability. If you miss tracking something you aren’t compliant anymore. Psychologically it makes you feel like you failed if 1 meal out of 20-30 in a week is off… just asking “were you compliant” is too inflexible for flexible dieting. I switched over to Macro Factor today and it’s just so far superior in every way. The diet algorithms between the two apps appear to be about the same, as my macros came in the same when setting up MF. It’s super fast to enter food, you can share recipes, and the diet coach is much more flexible and dynamic. The bar code scanner is instant, it’s actually pretty impressive. You can tell the developers are actually continuously improving the app while Carbon seems stagnant and basic. The good thing with Carbon is the support is fast and helpful, and ultimately I did lose weight using it so it served its purpose. It’s just too slow, cumbersome, and inflexible to use long term. But seriously, MF is like next level compared to this and it’s cheaper.
