I started to learn Japanese with this app and was really surprised at how good it was. I found I was learning faster than with Duo. But then I tried to get to the third lesson about professions, it was locked, even after I completed all the prior ones. The only next “lesson” I can click on is testing out of my current section. I would like to continue learning but it says it’s locked until I upgrade to premium, which is a bit out of my price range sadly. At $15 per month, a subscription to this service is more expensive than a Duolingo subscription, or even basic Netflix or Amazon Prime. A “lifetime” subscription is $300, which is close to the price of taking a class from a community college. :( This app is good, just wish more content was accessible without paying so much. I would rate this app higher if more content was available for free with ads.

And I find that having notes that clearly explain why, is a huge help. In (this is my third day with LINGODEER) just a few days, even in the intro classes, I have learned things that made no sense to me before. It is refreshing and drives me back to wanting to learn more! I learn better when not frustrated. LATER, I am actually learning how to spell en español….that has always been a problem for me, but they have a unique way of teaching spelling. TODAY….I noticed that Lingo always has speech available! I can tap to reinforce what I heard, or just practice with a new word. There are sentences where I read and then get a grade on pronunciation. I learn by hearing, so this is ideal. LINGO takes your mistakes and gently (no more sentences over and over ad nauseam) brings it back in another format; in a spelling or ‘insert a word’ format. I realize later that I now understand what I got wrong AND WHY!!!!
  • I appreciate this app

Best app ever for learning languages! Honestly so worth it, and helps you listen and understand so easily. I moved to Korea, and recently back to the United States. I’m trying to learn as much as I can before I return for work! This app has helped so much! Thank you amazing developers!

I am a nurse in a community with a lot of Korean immigrants originally started learning Korean during quarantine to be able to communicate simple needs with my patients without using a translator service. I originally started with Duolingo but found myself frustrated at how often when learning the alphabet their computer generated pronunciation didn’t match how my Korean coworkers said things are pronounced which led to me having a very hard time learning Hangul. I then switched to LingoDeer and found its pronunciation to be much more true to what my Korean coworkers said and I found I learned things much more quickly and easily using it. I found completing Korean 1 was more than enough for me to be able to communicate with Korean patients. I’d use the translator service for complex issues but after just completing Korean 1 I could introduce myself and the other members of the care team, ask orientation questions, ask them if they were in pain/nauseous/etc, and communicate basic needs easily. I am currently taking formal Korean classes and my Korean instructor was surprised by how much I was able to learn on my own and the grasp I had on the grammar and vocab just by using LingoDeer and the occasional YouTube video. Pronunciation is a little more hit-and-miss as it always is when learning a language on your own but if you have a Korean friend who can help you by critiquing your language you should be good. If Korean is your goal language I highly recommend it! I cannot speak to other languages unfortunately.

The structure of this app is amazing and I think it is better than Duolingo because it teaches you how to write the characters and also how to speak it. Also, the lessons are longer and you learn more. I feel like with Duolingo a lot of the time, you have to memorize everything. Duo is good for keeping up the language but LingoDeer is better for learning new languages and keeping up overall. It is a great app; I love it

I’ve downloaded a dozen apps and none of them are as fun. It’s easy to pick and in my opinion better then Rosetta Stone. This is the only app that starts off with the alphabet; worth every penny.
