  • So far it's great

It has helped me improve my focus, and I like the different types of music, downloading music for offline use, and the overall app design. Customer service team has been great to work with too.
  • Missing key features to make it 5-stars

Firstly, the music in this app is genuinely great! I love the variance in it, and I love that you can adjust the intensity depending on your scenario. But for the price of the subscription, they really need to add some features to make it a truly 5-stars experience. 1) Background play. Let me play another audio source from another app overtop Brain.fm. It’s one of my favorite features from other ambient music and sound apps. I like to be able to listen to an audio book while hearing focus music, or an asmr youtube video while still hearing sleep/relax music. 2) Home screen widgets for quickly jumping into the different kinds of music. Seems like a no-brainer. 3) Siri shortcuts. This one is HUGE! I use Brain.fm for sleep music nearly every night. It would be amazing if I could have a shortcut that jumped right into the exact type of sleep music I want at the exact volume I want without having to navigate the app itself. Other ambient music apps do this, and it’s a killer feature for me. When I’m sleepy, I don’t want to jump through a lot of hoops to get my music setup. 4) Integration with Apple Health. This is a minor one, but since Brain.fm offers meditation music and guides, it would be nice if mindfulness could be logged into Apple Health, potentially also keeping track of my heart rate and breath rate. 5) Fade between songs. This is a real small one, but sometimes I feel like there’s a harsh cut between songs and it’s a little jarring. Just have the tracks cross fade for a second or two when I’m changing tunes. Other suggestions I have are things like a standalone Apple Watch app, music for walking, running, and exercising in general, and an option to automatically download songs you’ve liked so they’re available offline. I feel like the app right now is polished for what it is. The music is great and the navigation is intuitive. It just needs more features for the price of the subscription. Hope the devs read this and take at least some of what I suggest into account.
  • Very repetitive

Recently purchased subscription (day 3). I was really excited by the diverse reviews. My personal experience has been lackluster thus far. Most of the tracks I experienced are of the highly repetitive, droning variety. Not sure if it’s intended or not but certainly is grating for me. I still have 11 more days to try and change my mind. Will try to be optimistic

I’ve been using this service for years and it’s always there for me. Dependable and I hope it never goes away. Music/sounds for working when I need to focus, music to calm me down when I’m anxious and music to put myself or my children to bed. Love it
  • Can’t sleep without it

I got this this to help focus while working. It hasn’t disappointed even after almost 2 yrs of use. I started using it for sleep and now I feel better rested with it on than without it. It’s amazing! I use this for my kids now. SO much better than just static noise.
  • Love this service but there are some annoyances

I found out about this service a couple of years ago via review articles from mainstream media. I was skeptical and tried it out. I was converted immediately. It simply works for me. I only use it to focus on work and there is something magical about those binaural beats. The subscription fee is a little steep but I need this so I am still a subscriber. I hope the developers are listening because I have a few annoyances I wish they would fix. I saw a previous review that covered the issues with downloading music. I understand this is fixed in an upcoming update which is wonderful to hear. It’s just so annoying to wait a few seconds for each song to play. Along the same lines, the app takes too long to startup. Also, If I’m listening to a song and I get interrupted by another app or phone call, it doesn’t continue playing after the interruption. The app doesn’t seem to be persistent enough. I also find that the same songs play over and over and in the same order. It would be nice if they played in a random fashion. Also, given this is a subscription, I assumed new music would be introduced more regularly. Maybe it is and I am completely missing it. Not sure but these annoyances have made me look elsewhere at other services. I hope these things get fixed soon so that I can continue to be a satisfied subscriber. UPDATE (May 12, 2022) Brain.fm developers, things have improved a little since my last review. However, I kept hearing there was a major update in the works and have not seen anything since. I still hope it’s coming. Also, please add settings to set default option or at least remember last duration and neural effect filter level. I only use >Focus>Deep Work which is ok to tap through. Except I have then change duration and neural effect every time. Would be really helpful to just come in and have alone tap to start my fav options. Thanks.
  • This App Works and here’s why…

I have a whoop monitor that I use 24/7, and I did a small study on myself using the brain.fm app. I did a whole week without brain.fm turned on when sleeping, and another week with brain.fm…What I saw in just this small time is that when I used the app, my deep sleep time was much higher and my recovery was almost always in the green above 75% which it has never been!! I made sure to follow the same daily routine and not change my diet or lifestyle during these 2 weeks and the results were statistically significant if you ask me. Brain.fm team should conduct a study similar to my small test and do it for a longer time.
  • Flawless Now!

The functionality of the service has been phenomenal since the beginning. This has been serving as my background music when I need to concentrate for "deep work". With the recent interface updates, I'm no longer distracted by the interface itself. Everything just flows cleanly. Very happy with the app now. Highly recommend it for anyone who gets distracted easily, or needs to focus in a difficult environment.
  • If it’s not broke, don’t fix it

I’m not sure what the motivation for the redesign was, but I never had a problem with the old version of the app. Since the redesign, I’ve never got it to work. It went from being indispensable to useless.
