We were first introduced to the Shaka app while visiting Maui. The road to Hana was amazing. So during this family trip to Kauai, we decided to download this app. My son named the tour guide “George.” “George” took us through some amazing locations in Kauai and we heard so many wonderful stories. There’s so much to do and see in this island. Highly recommend!

The information provided is fine. But I wanted to throw my phone out the window every time I tried to get it to work and wasted precious vacation time. Even with good Wi-Fi at the hotel, I couldn’t get downloading to start. It wasn’t the Wi-Fi. The app just wouldn’t respond. I’d press it over and over and it would just “think” then do nothing. Turned off phone, shut down app, closed everything on my phone, MORE than enough storage on my phone…and nothing. Finally after an hour or two I had three of the four I paid for downloaded. So we left. Then in the car trying to start a tour and it wouldn’t start 😤 THEN it suddenly said I still needed to download them!! I have gotten one to work so far. I’m not going to sit on the side of the road for hours trying to download AGAIN. I’d love the info, but time is too precious on vacation. Too expensive for the hassle.

We’ve bought this app for each of the islands and haven’t been disappointed. Each tour gives some fun history and tidbits that we probably wouldn’t have known about had we just driven around. And we didn’t pay an absolute fortune for it. That said, here are a couple of things to know but not to discourage you from purchasing. 1. The narrator is great but it sure would’ve been nice if they could have a different voice for each tour, just for a little variety. 2. In the years since these first came out, changes have happened. The Ishihara store in Waimea is closing in March 2023 so that’s off. The archaeological site in Poipu is kind of blocked by a large screen on the right and can be easy to miss. 3. When he tells you to turn right down a dirt road in Poipu, it’s been paved. Don’t be confused. 4. Kauai can be rainy. Try to look over or get a forecast of Waimea Canyon before driving up. Clouds settle in the canyon so views will be obscured. Consider bringing a hoodie and decent hiking shoes. Slippahs are slippery on the red mud. Trust me. 5. Finally, the app can be a bit clunky to use, especially when getting to the starting point, but once you’re there it’s pretty easy to just follow along. Just have fun with it and Live Aloha.

My husband and I just spent two weeks in Hawaii and used these guides. They were great. Guided us to all the “need to see” spots and filled us in on lots of information and history. I highly recommend. We used the guides for Oahu, Maui, Hawaii (The Big Island) and Kauai.

This was the best tour I have done and it is perfectly priced. There were so many picture opportunities, cool beaches, awesome caves, beautiful waterfalls. 10/10 would recommend. For the price you would spend on a guided tour with someone driving you, you can spend on a car for the week with to explore the entire island.
  • Great way to see the island!

This is a great way to see mostly everything on the island. The whole family enjoyed this and while we live in Hawaii on Oahu we learned a thing or two about Hawaiian culture. Navigation and locations are easy to find with the apps details and instructions. Highly recommend doing this!
  • Outstanding Guide!

We found these guides during our stopover on Oahu. They’re like a hop-on/hop-off bus tour but at your own pace.
